Changes in Nova Scotia’s Building Code Act Regulations affecting home-based businesses take effect August 1, 2016.
Important changes have been made to Nova Scotia’s Building Code Act:
Effective August 1, 2016 home-based businesses no larger than 25 per cent of the total floor area (50 m2) of a home that the business owner occupies will be exempt from certain parts of the Building Code Act Regulations intended for commercial spaces.
These exemptions include:
- wider doors and a barrier-free entrance;
- fire separations, loading, fire-rated doors with self-closures;
- and additional washroom facilities.
